Haute Dollhouse

Amazing is not enough to describe these doll houses by Michael Williams.

"I am a photographer and graphic designer whose personal work focuses on collectible 1:6 scale fashion dolls, including Barbie, Ken, Fashion Royalty, FR Nippon Misaki and R&D Susie, as well as dioramas and dollhouses, who hordes RE-MENT and MegaHouse miniatures as props for my photos. I also photograph for Haute Doll Magazine at www.hautedollhouse.com. My personal portfolio is online at www.mawphoto.com"

"This is an album of OOAK (not for sale) Barbie dollhouse dioramas I created for my first "Welcome to the Haute Dollhouse" feature in Haute Doll Magazine (www.hautedoll.com), along with a sneek peak at an UPDATED feature (opening photo above) in the May/June 2009 issue of Haute Doll."

New Style

I've received quite a few e-mails asking why our website is down? Well the answer is we are re-vamping our style! I'm taking Vanessa Cavaco Designs into somewhat of a new direction, you will still be able to find the same styles of invitations and stationery products you know me for...but with an extra little Je ne sais quoi.

We even got a brand spankin' new logo, which I am loving!

And here's a sneak peek at what we have been working on:

In the meantime we will have these and other new products listed at our etsy shop. Hopefully we will have the new site up and running in a week or two...I hope!
And stay tuned because tomorrow is the start of a new giveaway: 50 of one style of these invites will be up for grabs!

Princess Birthday Party

This week I had so many orders for Princess Invitations, that I kept seeing pink everywhere I turned. I designed a custom invitation for a lovely friend who is planning her little girl's birthday soon. I wanted to do something different, not your standard flat card invite. So I put the old noggin to work and came up with this:

A dress shaped ballgown draped in pink tulle and pink satin bow. My friend loved it and so did I. I had Pink Princess Party on the brain, here are some lovely ideas for your Princess Party.
(Read below for a little surprise)

Surprise: Are you planning a Princess Birthday Party for your little Princess? Well guess what?
I will be giving 8 of the Ball gown invitations to one lucky reader. Just leave a comment saying how your little princess would love these for her birthday...that's it.
The contest will end next Friday March 27th....I will use that trusty number generator (that all bloggers use :) to pick the winner, once YOU are declared the winner get in touch with us and we will start customizing your very own Ball Gown Invitations.
So hurry contest starts. NOW

According to my astrological sign (Gemini) I'm supposed to be all for the color YELLOW. But I'm not...in my closet you will find the ever so cheery brown, black, grey and army green (an occasional red thrown in for good measure) But when I saw this layout in Martha Stewart's current issue of Living...I was actually yellin for Yellow....I love it! I'm inspired to go and get some Benjamin Moore and paint up my house....what do you think?

Urban Art KR.ONE

I'm lucky to have some very talented friends and one of them happens to be Mr. Louie "KR. ONE" Gasparro. Louie and I worked in television a while back and that's when I first found out what an amazing artist he is. A born and bred New Yorker, he has been part of the Urban art scene for many years and some of his work was seen on NYC transit lines (subways here in good 'ol NYC) throughout the late 70's and early 80's along with walls in Long Island City and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

His inspirations and earliest influences range from Saturday morning cartoons, 1960's and 70's underground comics, rock album cover and poster art and of course the rolling art of NYC Subway Graffiti.

Louie has put his subway "excursions" on pause and continues his graphic, abstract, illustrative and graffiti art paintings with his own design company KOLORSTORM GRAFFICS, creating cd, dvd packaging, logo design, and clothing. Louie has taken part in several successful solo and group showings along with his artwork being showcased in several books, video games and magazine publications.

Louie has illustrated many designs for me including a new line of Nastee Note's which will be unveiled shortly. I'm excited to announce that Louie and I have partnered up to debut a new line of greeting cards called "Kolorstorms" featuring an array of his artwork, which will be available via my etsy shop and my website.

Check out more of Louie's work here, here and here

Dora: Why so grown up?

If you have kids then you know who Dora the explorer is. You have probably shelled out a pretty penny on dora toys, dora bedding, dora videos, dora clothes, dora live shows, dora snacks and the list goes on. It doesn't matter whether you have a son or a daughter...all kids just love Dora period! Well now Nickelodeon and Mattel feel it's time for Dora to grow up.
They want to make Dora go from this:

To this:

Why? you ask. Because they feel that Dora should hit the "Tween" scene. That she should be girly with many outfits to change into everday. What kind of message is this sending out to girls? So this means they are going to abandon the "Toddler/Pre-School" set. Oh...big mistake mattel and the creators of Dora (who from this point forward will be reffered to as "The Sellouts")
The toddler/pre-schooler set is a multi-million dollar industry....I know because I have spent all of my money on my son from the time he was born on all types of educational products, toys including Dora and her cousin Diego. So not only will you be losing a HUGE cut from the toddler/pre-schooler market, you will be losing children and their parents who loved Dora.

So the "Sellouts" feel that they should market Dora to the Tween scene. Let me tell you something kids today they grow up fast REAL FAST....the kids who used to watch Dora when they were younger are not going to give a damn whether Dora is all grown up. They have Hannah Montana, High School Musical, etc..etc...that's what they are interested in. My son is only 5 and he has moved on (already...brings tears to my eyes) to cartoons that are geared for older kids and he is not looking back! That's how all kids are! The Tween scene is interested in shows that have that "reality" feel to them....they are not going to go back and see what Dora is up to now.
So listen up Sellouts....I suggest you keep Dora the same! She belongs in the toddler set...she is a great example to small children and the fact that she is teaching them spanish at the same time is fantastic! At this age these are the kids who will learn new things and FAST! Leave the Tween scene alone they have enough going on already!

The Bright Side Project

I want to give a huge CONGRATULATIONS...to the lovely Miss. B, not only a fellow blogger and stationery designer but a cool friend and chick all around, who came up with the fantastic idea of The Bright Side Project. Here is something that I stole borrowed from Miss. B's blog to let you know what it's all about....

"The Bright Side Project is here to bring you a little metaphorical sunshine every day, to help you stop for a second and remember life is (still) beautiful and there is goodness in the world. Most importantly, The Bright Side Project strives to build fantastic exposure for those contributors who have been generous and kind enough to participate. During our first 28 days, we featured the work of some amazing artists. They posed questions that readers answered for the opportunity to win one of their works. Yes, 28 days of giveaways (thus your sunshine). I know times are tough right now, and maybe shopping has become a distant memory. I feel your pain, I seriously do. The Bright Side Project Part II is dedicated to YOU. This time around we are featuring the work of accessory designers, because there's nothing like a lil' somethin' somethin' to brighten one’s day. All you have to do for a chance to win is answer the designer’s question in the comment section. Easy-peasy! I do hope you play along each day, as your answers make my days brighter and we all need a little reminder to look on the bright side..."

Her amazing work was featured on Daily Candy here.

So go check out The Bright Side Project to brighten your day!

Nutella for me Nutella for you...

Ok so right off the bat, no beating around the bush here...I was given a jar of Nutella...yeah I know who gives someone a jar of Nutella you ask? Well someone just happened to give me a huge jar of this ever so delicious should be damned outlawed chocolaty goodness that you can spread on anything delicacy. What do you say when someone gives you a gift like this? My response, " Oh Wow! Thanks I actually had been thinking about buying a jar of Nutella myself, you must have been reading my mind."

I mean do I look like the kind of girl who looks like she should be eating freakin' Nutella? The answer is NO....I should be eating celery sticks like a rabbit...but that ain't happening...either.

I set that puppy on my desk....but that bastard was tempting me like I was Eve and he was a chocolate covered apple....so what is a girl to do....well buy some of these of course:

That's right saltines.....saltines + nutella = heaven in my book.
So for the past 2 days I have been snacking on saltines and nutella....feel like my pants need some grandma elastic and my blood pressure is going through the roof...but it's all good.
Thought I'd share that with you....got to go...chocolate goodness is callin'

Cora's Playground

Never have I been so touched in my life as by the story of 11 month old Cora. This precious little angel from heaven lost her life to cancer on February 8th. Her parents are trying to build a playground in her memory. Over 100 etsy sellers have been offering proceeds from their shops to this most amazing cause. The deadline for the donations is on March 5th which would have been Cora's 1st birthday. So for the next 2 days everything that is in all of my 3 etsy shops which are here, here and here is to benefit Cora's playground. I will donate 100% of all sales of every single item to this cause. So please spread the word and let's help get this playgroung built in memory of a most precious angel. To read more about this amazing story:

Eklektic

I was searching through flickr for ideas on craft rooms and offices and I came across this most GENIUS idea by Eklektic. She is transforming a former kitchen into a craft room. So check this out, she is PAINTING moldings and picture frames to display her family and friend's childrens artwork. I think this looks amazing and it takes quite the talent to do!
